In the mood to spice up your diet without burning a hole in your pocket or traveling far beyond campus? Treat yourself to a reasonably priced and deliciously exotic meal at Bombay Courtyard, located on South Main Street. Not only is it an easily accessible and inexpensive restaurant, but the flavorful dishes will allow you to discover just how India earned such a grand name for itself in the spice trade.
Bombay Courtyard gives its ambiance a unique flair with Indian music so upbeat that you might even yearn to hear it at your next JMU party. If you’re 21, step inside and look left to discover a nicely stocked bar that is sure to please. If you’re under 21, a mango lassi, a savory smoothie, will surely satisfy. Not only do the music and bar enhance the restaurant’s atmosphere, but a friendly host will promptly show you to one of Bombay Courtyard’s many elegantly dressed tables.
Be sure to come hungry, as the restaurant offers quick service and generous portions in addition to this speedy seating. Not too hungry or aiming to save room for dessert? Bombay Courtyard conveniently offers a half-priced “petit” version of every meal. However, with a tantalizing variety of dishes ranging from chicken, lamb or fish cooked in a distinctive clay oven to assorted seafood, meat and vegetarian specialties, you’ll surely be tempted to opt for the regular- sized portion.
The onion and paneer naan (bread filled with onions and homemade cheese) with eggplant bhartha (eggplant sautéed with onions, tomatoes, garlic and herbs) is just one of the enjoyable meals offered at Bombay Courtyard.
Not only does the menu feature meals that are guaranteed to please, but the prices will surely put a smile on your face as well. The onion and paneer naan was $2.50 (one of the more expensive breads on the menu) and the eggplant bhartha was $8.95 — a fairly average price at Bombay Courtyard. If your goal is to save money, you can savor a regular-sized portion for as little as $7.95 or, if you have some room to splurge, the most expensive meals go for $14.95.
Bombay Courtyard is located at 1588 S. Main St.
