Letters to the Editor (Editorial Policies) Our sports need support as well as saving Did you know that each year you pay $1,200 in fees to support the athletic program? Put your money to use and start attending athletic events. This past fall the field hockey team won the conference, knocking off powerhouse ODU en route to an NCAA tournament berth. The women’s volleyball team had one of its best seasons, with three players earning All-State honors and coach Disa Garner winning Coach of the Year. Women’s soccer finished second in the CAA with a very young roster. Men’s soccer standout Kurt Morsink was recently drafted to MLS. The football team made it to the first round of playoffs. The men’s cross-country team had the individual winner in the CAA and IC4A championships in C.W. Moran. The team took second in both meets. Dena Spickard was the conference Runner of the Year for the women. JMU is decorated with talented and dedicated athletes. Don’t miss out on the action. Women’s basketball has a home-game winning streak that continues from last year and is receiving votes in the top 25. Be a part of the Convocation madness and help spur these girls to the NCAA tournament. Finally, the men’s and women’s swim and dive team competes this weekend in its only home meet of the year. It will be the last men’s swim meet at JMU, so let’s pack Godwin Hall’s Savage Natatorium and show these athletes we care. Regardless of having 28 programs at JMU or 18, each student will still pay $1,200, so why not start a purple frenzy? Jennifer Chapman, senior SMAD major, president, Student Athlete Advisory Council
