Pelosi's visit not that petty

You got played. Instead of doing research, you decided to simply crib some Fox News headlines and tell us that Nancy Pelosi is hurting America by visiting with Syrian President  Bashar Assad. Had you done your research, you would have found that Pelosi was not the only House representative meeting with Assad this week. Three Republican congressmen met with Assad days before Pelosi, including Frank Wolf, representative for much of Northern Virginia. Did these Republican congressmen make the United States look “childish and amateur” as well? How about a little more honesty, and a little less parroting of Republican talking points.

Get off your butt and start biking

JMU has recently been bragging about its recent progress in becoming a “green” campus by switching all work equipment to run on an ethanol mixture. This is a step in the right direction, but JMU is still very slow in other aspects. Every day, hundreds and thousands of students drive alone to campus. There are various lame excuses, but the bottom line is they are all driving to campus. Not only is this an enormous waste of fuel (something our entire country is guilty of), but it has also driven JMU to waste millions of dollars on parking facilities.

Maybe rather than wase my tuition on parking decks I will never use, JMU should encourage or even reward those who carpool with three or more people, generously reward those that ride the bus, and even more to those who walk or ride their bike (yes, that means exercise).

All over the country, bike paths or so called “greenways” are becoming popular. What if JMU had greenways from each major apartment complex to some part of campus?

Rather than rewarding the wasteful, I would like to see JMU reward those trying to make a difference and do something good for their community.
