Fantasy Football Week 10

Fantasy Owners,

Week 9 brought great games from the likes of Adrian Peterson, Joseph Addai, Marshawn Lynch, Ben Roethlisberger, and Tony Romo. Nothing new there. The biggest surprise of the week had to be the Detroit Lions defense sticking it to the hapless Denver Broncos.  The kings of the Midwest jungle had five sacks, forced three fumbles, scored two touchdowns, and added a pick. With man-child Shaun Rodgers anchoring their defensive line and athletic Ernie Sims leading a revitalized line-backing core, look for the Lions to continue to terrorize a mediocre NFC.

In this week’s “Vs.” section, reader Jeff Mullen asks the question of who to start: Anquan Bolden vs. Detroit or Santonio Holmes vs. Cleveland?

Holmes is coming off a huge, two-touchdown game against Baltimore on Monday Night Football. Bolden has played well since missing three straight games earlier in the year with a hip injury. It comes down to who is throwing them the football. Arizona QB Kurt Warner has played admirably since dislocating his elbow and continues to keep Arizona alive in a weak AFC West race. However, Ben Roethlisberger dissected a supposed to be good Ravens defense for 5 touchdowns. All signs point to Roethlisberger continuing his solid play; Holmes is the better pick.

Let’s take a look at this upcoming week’s Studs, Duds, and Sleeper Picks.

Studs

Reggie Bush vs. St. Louis

Bush is coming off his best week of the season, scoring on the ground and through the air. New Orleans is on a four game winning streak, look for them to lean heavily on Bush Sunday.

Line: 175 yards, 2 TD’s

Marshawn Lynch @ Miami

If it weren’t Adrian Peterson having the best season by a rookie rusher ever, Lynch would be the top candidate for rookie of year. Miami’s 26th ranked defense will have no chance to stop him.

Line: 150 yards, 2 TD’s

Calvin Johnson @ Arizona

The No. 2 pick in April’s draft has yet to have the breakout game that fantasy owners have been looking for. Look for this to be that game.

Line: 100 yards, 1 td

Duds

Steve Smith vs. Atlanta

The revolving Carolina QB carousel continues this week with David Carr being sidelined with a concussion. Look for wily vet Vinny Testaverde to take the snaps under center.

Smith will continue to get open with no one to pass him the ball.

LenDale White vs. Jacksonville

Reggie Bush’s wingman at USC has finally landed the starting running back job in Tennessee after reporting overweight to camp the last two years. Jacksonville’s D takes a huge hit with the loss of Marcus Stroud. William Henderson is still around to anchor the D-line, giving them the edge over White and the Titans.

Ryan Grant vs. Minnesota

In just his second career start, Grant will go against the league’s #1 run defense. I guess it doesn’t matter that much, seeing that Green Bay will only pass the ball anyway.

Sleepers

Devin Hester/Bears D/Special Teams vs. Oakland

The usually stout Bears D has not lived up to their preseason expectations. Hester on the other hand, has not had the chance to showcase what he can do, with every team kicking the ball out of bounds. Can you think of a better team to breakout of a slump against then the Raiders? Me neither.

Jesse Chatman vs. Buffalo

The new No. 1 back in Miami has played decent since Ronnie Brown went down with a season ending injury three weeks ago. Expect him to be a vital part of the Dolphins offense on Sunday against an improving Bills D.

Shaun McDonald @ Arizona

The overlooked McDonald has fit in nicely at Detroit's No. 4 receiver slot. The 5th year man from Arizona State gets lost in the shuffle with Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson, and Mike Furrey garnering the attention of opposing defenses. With McDonald approaching 500 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns, don't let him get lost in your fantasy shuffle.
