Web exclusive: Charlottesville based band brings talent to Harrisonburg

Friday night Rocktown Bar and Grill was full of life as locals came out to see Sons of Bill. The critically acclaimed band is from Charlottesville and has a catchy alternative country rock sound. The band consists of three brothers; Abe on keyboard, Sam on guitar and James as lead singer along with bassists Seth Green. The band formed in early 2005 and had one thing in common, they wanted to make music.

The set started around 10:30p.m. and included an array of songs from their album A Far Cry From Freedom along with new songs they have recently produced.

James did a good job of revving up the crowd and encouraged people to dance. They have an alternative feel but at the same time catchy tunes one might hear on the radio.

By 11:15 the majority of the crowd was dancing and the band was enjoying a solid turnout. As they dove into their signature hit “Far Cry” the crowd erupted with excitement. Next they played, “Roll on Jordan” and “Texas” while closing with “Savannah Rain.”

With their versatile sound, Sons of Bill are able to appeal to a wide audience. From winning UVA’s battle of the bands to performing at a music festival in Chicago to playing shows in New York City, they are everywhere.
