JMU men’s basketball coach Dean Keener announced Friday that he will resign after four years at the helm.
Keener’s resignation comes after posting a 29-83 record since the start of the 2004-05 season.
“Our record doesn't show what this team and program have accomplished. We knew of the severe challenges when we arrived at JMU, yet we incurred many more unexpectedly along the way,” said Keener in a statement released on jmusports.com.
Before coming to Harrisonburg, Keener was an assistant college coach for 16 years, most recently at Georgia Tech from 2000-2004.
Athletic Director Jeff Bourne said in the release that the search for a coach will begin immediately.
