The University Program Board announced on Wednesday who will be performing at this semester’s Convocation Center show: Boys Like Girls.
The Boston-area group is known for its pop-punk genre music. Their most well-known song is “The Great Escape,” and their current single on the airwaves is “Thunder.”
The announcement was delivered in conjunction with the Crazy Commons Wednesday.
“This is our outreach event where we just let people know the events that we have going on,” said Patrick White, director of center stage committee.
Due to rain, the carnival-themed event scheduled to take place on the commons was moved to Transitions in Taylor Hall.
UPB sent out a survey this summer to JMU undergraduate and graduate students with a list of potential groups for the concert, and the different price ranges for the artists. They chose the mix of groups based on what they thought would sell the most tickets. About 7,000 students responded with their preferences, according to White.
The survey also asked students which day of the week they would prefer to attend a performance.
The concert will take place on Friday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. Ticket prices will be announced soon. Opening bands are Cute Is What We Aim For and Hit the Lights, and the event is open to the public.
