The Breeze, James Madison University's student newspaper, provides news and advertising for a growing population at one of Virginia's finest public institutions. The Breeze is published on Mondays and Thursdays during the academic year and distributed free of charge to JMU and the surrounding communities.
A survey conducted by the JMU Center for Entrepreneurship found that more than 93 percent of JMU students read The Breeze at least once a month. More than 38 percent read every issue of The Breeze. The survey also found that more than 41 percent of students have used a coupon from The Breeze, and almost 40 percent said that advertising in The Breeze influences their purchasing decisions.
With a circulation of 9,500, The Breeze serves a readership of more than 22,000, including more than 18,000 students, 3,000 faculty and staff, and members of the Harrisonburg community. In addition, local businesses receive more than 1,000 free copies of The Breeze for their patrons.
The newspaper has won numerous editorial and advertising awards over its nearly nine-decade history.
