Ryan's Picks:
I really do not like picking the same people more
than once in a season, but I suppose that during a 17-week season
it is OK to do once in a while. Therefore, both of my quarterbacks
this week I have predicted big things from before. I still have
yet to figure out who the real San Francisco 49ers are, but whomever
they might be, it is a team that can beat the pathetic Arizona Cardinals.
More importantly, I think that quarterback Jeff Garcia will keep
his hot hand (253 yards, two touchdowns) and feast on the Cardinals'
defense.
My gutsiest pick of the season thus far is the
New England Patriots' Tom Brady. Even though he is playing
against the Cleveland Browns the league's stingiest
defense against opposing quarterbacks , the Patriots are at
home and coming off a huge win. I look for at least a pair of touchdowns.
Running back Ricky Williams will have a huge game
when his Miami Dolphins travel to San Diego Monday night. The Chargers
give up the third-most points to running backs, and Williams simply
is due for a monster performance (only 208 yards and two touchdowns
in his last three games).
If you are looking for the cutting "Edge"
this week, look no further than Indianapolis Colts running back
Edgerrin James. He has been out the past three weeks with a lower
back injury, but a home game against the Houston Texans should be
just what the doctor ordered.
As shallow and bitter as it may seem, I must pick
someone to succeed against a team from New York. Minnesota Vikings
wide receiver Randy Moss is the man for the job. Not necessarily
a surprise pick by any means, but the Giants have a weak secondary
and I expect Moss and Daunte Culpepper to "click" in the
quarterback's second week back from injury.
This last pick is Denver Broncos tight end Shannon
Sharpe. He always seems to have one huge game a year, usually in
a "statement game." What is a better way to make a say
something than to have a big day against your former team.
Caleb's Picks:
I swear Cleveland Browns quarterback Tim Couch
has a mental block when it comes to playing at home. Whatever the
case, I started rooting for Kelly Holcombe to break his leg in the
fourth quarter so coach Butch Davis would have no choice but to
put Couch back in. This is what fantasy football does to you
I'm not proud, but I can take comfort in knowing others feel
the same way.
Even though Colts quarterback Peyton Manning
had a bye last week, something tells me he didn't take a vacation,
and if he actually did, no doubt he brought his playbook along with
him. Peyton eats, sleeps and breathes coverages and audibles and
he dreams about how to effectively break down the cover-two. For
this reason, I'll take Peyton and the Colts to put up a respectable
275 yards and two touchdowns.
The Seattle Seahawks play the pass well. Their
secondary is aggressive, physical and very hard-hitting. It would
seem like a bad idea to pick any quarterback against them,
especially one from the Cincinnati Bengals, however, quarterback
Jon Kitna has been hot as of late. Since mid-2002, Kitna has been
a top-10 fantasy quarterback, and he has a very dangerous weapon
in wide receiver Chad Johnson. I like Kitna to throw for two scores
with 250 yards.
If you play in a salary capped league (versus a
draft league) then you may want to think about the Houston Texans'
running back Domanick Davis. Davis would be a cheap pick up and
is predicted to have a big week. I don't believe he'll
put up the same numbers as, say, San Diego Chargers running back
Ladanian Tomlinson, but Davis could be the back with the most bang
for the buck. Look for Davis to total 120 yards and score his first
touchdown of the season.
In Week two against the New Orleans Saints, Carolina
Panthers running back Stephen Davis rushed for 159 yards and a score.
I am picking Davis to do well again this week, mainly because of
the Saints' coaching. If Davis had burned, say, the New England
Patriots, I would expect coach Bill Belichik to come up with a scheme
to stop him this time. New Orleans coach Jim Haslett is no defensive
mastermind, and this gives me enough confidence to say Davis will
run for 130 yards and a score.
Since his breakout opening game in which he scored
twice with 212 yards, Arizona Cardinals rookie wide receiver
Anquan Boldin has put up more solid games but has failed to get
in the end zone. I expect that to change this week against the San
Francisco 49ers. I see Boldin scoring his third touchdown of the
season and getting 100 receiving yards.
