'Suspicious person' cases reported

- compiled from staff reports

A "suspicious person" loitering around Edith Carrier Arboretum and another at the south end of Greek Row was reported according to a timely notification bulletin issued April 9 by JMU police.

For the past few weeks, women have reported a white male subject approaching them while eating their lunch in the arboretum. The subject is described as medium build, approximately 5'10" to 5'11," in his late 30s with brown hair parted to one side and a bushy mustache. While he has not exposed himself to any of the women, according to the report, he was sexually aroused by the encounter.

In an unrelated incident, a suspicious person was reported Saturday, April 5 between 1 and 1:30 p.m at the south end of Greek Row near Port Republic Road. The subject was described as a white male, approximately 50 years of age with white hair and some white facial hair. He reportedly approached several women at the sand volleyball court. According to the report, the subject laid down next to the women and exhibited perverted behavior. He allegedly touched himself in a sexual way; however, he did not expose himself according to the report.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents can contact University Police at x8-6911 or at publicsafety. One can report information anonymously through "Silent Witness" at www.jmu.edu/pubsafety/silentwitness.shtml.
