Men's Ultimate Frisbee advances to regionals
The Club House
The JMU Men's Ultimate Frisbee Club Team finished the Blue Ridge sectional tournament with a record of 5-3 Sunday, which qualifies it to advance to the Atlantic Coast regional tournament at East Carolina University May 1 and 2. "This has been the goal the entire season [to go regional]," senior Matthew Eddy said. "It's more important to me than graduating." The winner of the regional tournament will go on to compete in the national championship tournament May 28 to 30. During the sectionals, the Flying Hellfish defeated rivals such as Virginia Tech and Radford University. After vanquishing Tech in the first game of the Hellfish's eight game weekend, they managed to overcome a first game hex. "We started strong and set the tone for the weekend," junior P.J. Williamson said. "And we were able to break our tradition of losing the first game of the tournament." In addition to defeating Tech and Radford., the Hellfish tallied victories over the College of William & Mary's B team and managed to keep pace with the University of Tennessee and the University of Virginia. "We played as close to our potential as humanly possible," Eddy said. "This is the best I've ever seen the Hellfish play," senior Ernest Toney. Top performers for JMU included senior handler Peter Anderson, sophomore handler Tobey Jacobs and freshman Drew Bolton.
