Cowabunga! Movie on the Quad, Dudesby Erin Lee / senior writer
Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michaelangelo were not just world-renowned
Italian artists; The childhood favorite lean, green fighting machines
of the 90s are back in "Quad-A-Bunga" Monday night. The University Program Board and Up til Dawn will present the program,
featuring the film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," at 9:45 p.m.
Sept. 13. on the Quad. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is kind of nostalgic, and we
wanted something fun and upbeat that people would get excited for,"
said sophomore Anna Fitzgibbon, director of cinematic promotion. No limit has been set on attendance. "Weve never done an event
on the Quad, so we dont know what full capacity is, but we hope
it will be packed," said sophomore Jeremy Paredes, director of media
and public relations. "Its a way to show what the capabilities of UPB are, and also
a good opportunity to welcome everyone back from summer," he said. The money raised by the event will benefit St. Jude Childrens Research
Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. for the research and treatment of cancer and
other catastrophic diseases, said junior Meg Dalmut, special events director
for Up til Dawn. "UPB has been very generous with helping us put on some events because
we are a non-profit organization, so we cant pay for a lot of things,"
Dalmut said. "Were hoping to get ourselves involved in more
places on campus and it looks like a lot of fun, and its
a great way to get our name out there." UPB will be doing a movie promotion Friday on the Quad from 12 to 2 p.m. with the UPB Street Team, a new team developed to promote UPB events. For more information about the event, visit UPBs Web site, upb.jmu.edu. |
